Kids First Children's Services helps children and families to thrive and not just cope in their classroom, playground, home and community environments.
Led by award-winning teacher and best-selling author, Sonja Walker, Kids First’s multidisciplinary team of child psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and teachers is known for the practical, evidence-based support it gives to kids (and their parents and teachers) so that they can navigate the ups and downs of preschool, school and life.
With Core Values of Care, Kindness, Compassion and Making a Contribution, Kids First has supported thousands of Australian children, parents, carers and educators.
We offer a wide range of in-clinic, tele-health, digital supports and live events that are delivered by highly skilled paediatric professionals.
At Kids First, we believe that every child has the right to be acknowledged as an individual with unique and valuable gifts.
We also believe in empowering parents so that they can be informed champions for their children
Our mission is to equip parents to be the kinds of informed, proactive mums and dads that they want to be, and to encourage and support children so that they can have the happy, confident lives they deserve.
Meet Sonja Walker
Sonja’s mission is to help kids of all ages and abilities to ‘thrive and not just cope’.
The author of best-selling book SCHOOL READY: A practical and supportive guide for parents with sensitive kids, her passion is empowering parents to become strong and confident advocates for their children.
Sonja has been a qualified teacher for more than 30 years and founded award-winning paediatric health and education practice Kids First Children’s Services in 2007.
With her team of experienced child psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and teachers, Sonja has supported thousands of Australian children and families to meet the social, emotional and learning demands of preschool, school and life.
A sought-after media commentator on topics related to children’s learning and development, Sonja also shares easy and practical ways to raise resilient kids in preschools, schools and corporate settings.
When not supporting children and families at Kids First, Sonja can be found enjoying a beachside coffee with her husband, spending time with family and friends, and trying (often unsuccessfully) to tame the exuberance of her silly, but lovable dog, Sheldon.
